Alejandro Betancourt and Sustainable Leadership

Ever since Alejandro Betancourt joined Hawkers, the company has been on a positive trajectory in terms of product marketing and sales. The changes that he has made in the company’s organizational strategy have stabilized supply for customer demand of sunglasses in Europe and worldwide.

Alejandro Betancourt has been substantially responsible for Hawker’s shift in operating standards to become a global brand. First, there is the deal with El Ganso, a Spanish clothing brand with valuable advertising leverage. Then the Hawkers Brand Ambassador program recruited college students to influence online shopping trends from their followers.

Alejandro Betancourt has enlisted major companies such as Mercedes-Benz and Kia to advertise the sunglasses to solidify the international appeal. Celebrities and famous personalities have been approached to wear the company’s sunglasses as well. In 2018, Alejandro Betancourt proved his faith in Hawkers as a profitable company by increasing his stake in the company. He bought 20 million Euros worth of shares in the company, effectively allowing him to control 50% of the company’s interest.

The company supports more than 200 employees working in stores worldwide while still operating online as well. Close to five million sunglasses have been sold to date, and the company generates upwards of 100 million dollars annually. The recent innovative model for the company is addressing environmental conservation as a company that deals with plastic material products. The new H2O sunglasses line has been launched to introduce products made from biodegradable materials through a limited edition release.

The sunglasses are gender-neutral and come in various new features for different profiles; they are also sold and delivered with sustainable packaging to reduce the impact of non-degradable plastics in the environment. The new H2O line has also been used to spark a series of ocean cleanup events to collect plastic littering, which is part of sustainable business practice.
